The World of Wall Street is a business simulation game. The players are Wall Street brokers, attempting to gain control of corporations and make the most money by buying and selling stock.
There are 24 "Quote Cards" in the game showing the prices of the stocks that the game tracks. (Recognizable variations of real company names, the stocks are Century Films, ComStar, Olympia, TCA, SCA, IBC, UT & CC and General Auto.) At the start of the game the Quote Cards are shuffled and placed face down. The top card is drawn and placed in the holder.
Each player then, in turn, rolls dice and moves around the board. Each space on the board is labeled for one of the corporations. When a player lands on a space they may buy or sell stock for the corporation named on that space. When all of the players have moved the next Quote Card is turned over and the next round begins.
There are several special circumstances which can occur. First, any player who controls 11 or more "Certificates" (11,000 shares of stock) in any corporation becomes the "Chairman of the Board" of that corporation. That player may buy or sell stock in that corporation at any time, regardless of what square they are on.
Second, there are two special codes on the Quote Cards which can either force all players to sell all of their stock in a company or which can force only the Chairman of the Board to sell their stock. No stock in these companies can be purchased on these rounds.
After all 24 Quote Cards have been turned up the net worth of all players is calculated based on the amount of cash they have and the amount of stock they own. The player with the highest net worth is the winner.
The World of Wall Street is a very interesting game. There is a surprising amount of strategy in it given the level of randomness involved. For example, being Chairman of the Board gives you the advantage of being able to buy and sell stock whenever you want but you are still forced to sell under some certain circumstances. Or, if you are on a space for a corporation, should you buy or sell now or hope you land on the space again when a better quote card is up. A very interesting business game.
