Mob Strategy - The Takeover Game

Mob Strategy is a chess variation based on the mobs of the "Gangster Era". Instead of the traditional Kings, Queens, Pawns and the like, the pieces in this game represent the Boss, his Hoods, Punks and a pair of Chauffeur Driven Cars. The object of the game is to "rub out" the opposing player's Boss or to "take over" the opposing gang's "warehouse".

As in Chess, the pieces in Mob Strategy are limited in how they can move. The Boss can only move one square horizontally or vertically. Punks are also limited to moving only one square but they can do so in any direction. Hoods can move any number of squares but only diagonally and Cars can move any number of squares but only horizontally or vertically. A Car can move onto the Boss at which point the Boss can "ride" in the Car and move with it (using the Car's movement rules).

Whenever a piece belonging to one player lands on a square occupied by a piece belonging to another player the second piece is "bumped off" and removed from the board. Pieces cannot move through each other and no piece can occupy the same space as another piece (except for a Boss riding a Car).

Players alternate moving pieces until one player either 1) bumps off the other's Boss or 2) lands on the other player's warehouse (a specific square on the board). That player is the winner.

Mob Strategy is a somewhat interesting Chess variant but does not seem to be quite as interesting as some others. The small number of pieces (and types of pieces) limits the number of strategies that can be used. Still, the atmosphere of the game is good and it would make a good quick game.

Sadly, they don't bring very much on the secondary market. Pity, as I had a lot of fun growing up playing both Vegas and Mob Strategy.
